Resilience Lab: Strong body, Strong Mind
SUN 9TH NOV 1PM Exploring our strength in challenging times
Service Description
We live in challenging times. Right now, there is a lot to be upset about, a lot to be distressed about and a lot to be angry about. Most of it, we can't do anything about it. In this Lab I am joined by the wonderful Louisa from Phlourish Physio in Dingwall. She is also a Chartered Physiotherapist, with experience working with elite athletes internationally, but also has very holistic approach to health, rehab and living. Together we will be sharing knowledge and practices, designed to build resilience, physically and mentally. We will be demystifying and simplifying a vast amount of information, so it is easy to understand and immediately applicable to life. Not quite a retreat, not quite a workshop, this lab is somewhere in between. We practice techniques, woven with knowledge but with some space for inquiry/reflection to consolidate our inner learning. We will be exploring both physical, mental and somatic techniques to help build our inner (and outer strength). Not only will this help us to build our resilience in dealing with the thing life throws at us, it also helps us to cope with the bigger threats to our way of life and humanity. Expect some muscular strength training, activities that raise the heart rate, mindfulness practice and other somatic practices. But as well as this we'll be sharing the importance of mobility as we move through life and super interesting science on how having a strong body really does enhance a strong mind! On top of that, we will also explore how nutrition can really enhance out inner and outer strength. (With tasty treats to sample as we break for tea). All are welcome. It may be of particular interest to those wanting to navigate particular life challenges; those wanting to gain awareness to prevent injury; and those wanting to develop tools to get strong and now to stay doing the things we love for years to come. Jon Kabat Zinn (the guy who first brought Mindfulness to the West) said that "we can't stop the waves, but we can learn how to surf" We look forward to sharing these practices with you in a way that is accessible to all and applicable to life. Thanks, Alice and Louisa
