The Body Speaks: Somatics & Anxiety
A Practical Workshop: Exploring Anxiety Through the lens of Somatics. 26th April 10am
Service Description
The Body Speaks: Somatics & Anxiety Sat 26th April 10am - 1pm This practical workshop will deepen our understanding of what 'somatics' actually is how it might alter our understanding of anxiety. We will practice a number of somatic techniques to enable us to understand them experientially, but we will also back this up with some theory. It is an introduction to somatics, so no experience needed. Equally, you don’t have to suffer with anxiety to take part, much of the learning will be applicable to life in general! ‘Soma’ comes from the Greek for "the body experience from within'' (with psyche being the Greek for mind). It is the place where body and mind overlap. Anxiety is an experience where the body can speak quite loudly, but quite often we try to manage this from a ‘mind-centric’ perspective. Somatics would argue that to manage anxiety, we need to get into the body and listen to the messages our body is telling us. Most of us have experienced anxiety at some point, the butterflies in the tummy, the sweating palms plus myriad of other symptoms whether it is for a specific reason like a job interview, or just a general feeling that is always there. We will explore what is happening in the nervous system and how both the body and mind contribute to your experience. We will practically and theoretically look and feel at how somatic practices can interrupt this process to reduce symptoms both in the shorter and longer term. It will be a warm and light hearted, informative session with plenty of space for practical exploration of techniques and mindful inquiry. We will have a short morning break for ‘elevenses’ with teas/coffees and a sweet treat. Please let me know if you have any dietary requirements. Please wear clothes that you can move in; bring a blanket and a yoga mat (we have spares if not possible, so just let me know). We *might* go outside for part of the session, weather permitting, so bring suitable clothing/shoes. Finally, a sense of curiosity and openness will help you to get the most out of the morning. :-) If you have any dietary requirement, please let me know on the form. Any questions, please get in touch via alice@alicemcneilhealth.com Looking forward to taking a deeper dive into some of these amazing practices! Thanks, Alice
